Yoyogi National Gymnasium
Kenzo Tange designed 1964 Olympic pool with a suspension roof
Overview
Yoyogi National Gymnasium, built for Tokyo 1964, paired a dramatic suspension roof with an Olympic pool and arena and hosted swimming, diving and basketball. Architect Kenzo Tange made it a landmark of postwar Japanese design. The building hosted Olympic events again at the 2021 Games in a different sport.
