Overview
Konrads arrived in Australia as a Latvian refugee infant and rose to set world records across freestyle distances in 1958 at age 15. He won the 1500 m freestyle at Rome 1960, adding bronze in the 400 m. He and his sister Ilsa made the Konrads family a household name in the sport.
