First North Channel Crossing
Tom Blower, 1947, across the coldest and most jellyfish filled channel
Overview
The North Channel between Ireland and Scotland runs about 35 km with water a few degrees colder than the English Channel and blooms of lions mane jellyfish. Tom Blower crossed it in 1947 in 15 hours 26 minutes. It is now considered the toughest leg of the Oceans Seven, attempted by relatively few swimmers each summer.
