Overview
Phelps won six golds at Athens 2004 and eight at Beijing 2008, breaking Mark Spitz single Games record. His 2008 program included golds in every event he entered. He added four golds at London 2012 and five at Rio 2016, retiring after 21 Olympic medals in individual events plus relays. His butterfly and IM dominance spanned 15 years at the top.
