Overview
Popovici clocked 46.86 in Rome in August 2022, becoming the first man under 47 seconds for the 100 m freestyle. The record stood until Pan Zhanle swam 46.80 leading off a relay at the 2024 world championships and then 46.40 in the Paris Olympic final.
