First Sub-15-Minute 1500 m Freestyle
Vladimir Salnikov, 14:58.27 at the 1980 Moscow Games
Overview
Salnikov cracked 15 minutes in the Moscow final, a barrier compared in its day to the four minute mile. His distance training volumes under coach Igor Koshkin rewrote middle distance as well, as he also won the 400 m in Moscow. The 1500 world record has since descended under 14 minutes 31 seconds.
