Federica Pellegrini
First woman under four minutes in the 400 m freestyle
Overview
Pellegrini won the 200 m freestyle at Beijing 2008 in world record time and the following year at the World Championships in Rome became the first woman to swim the 400 m freestyle in under four minutes. Her 200 m freestyle world record from 2009 lasted well over a decade. She won world titles over 200 m across a decade and swam in five Olympic finals in the event.
