Overview
Meyer won the 200 m, 400 m and 800 m freestyle at the 1968 Olympics, the first woman to win three individual swimming golds at a single Games. The 800 m was making its Olympic debut, and she set world records across the middle distances during her short career. She was named the top American amateur athlete of 1968 and retired before the 1972 Games.
