Beijing 2008 4 x 100 m Freestyle Relay
Jason Lezak ran down Alain Bernard to keep the Phelps eight gold bid alive
Overview
The French team were favorites after Alain Bernard predicted they would smash the Americans. On the anchor leg Jason Lezak trailed Bernard by almost a body length but swam the fastest relay split in history to that point, 46.06, and touched first by eight hundredths of a second. The win kept Michael Phelps on course for his record eight golds in Beijing.
