Natalie Coughlin
First woman under one minute in the 100 m backstroke
Overview
Coughlin broke the one minute barrier for the 100 m backstroke in 2002 and won the Olympic title in the event at both Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. In 2008 she became the first American woman to win six medals at a single Games. She finished with 12 Olympic medals in total, equaling the record for an American woman at the time.
