Kieren Perkins
Two consecutive Olympic 1500 m titles and a 14:41.66 world record
Overview
Perkins won the 1500 m freestyle at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, the second from lane 8 after barely qualifying, one of the great finals. His 14:41.66 from the 1994 Commonwealth Games stood as the world record until 2001. He and Hackett carried Australian distance tradition across a decade.
