Alfred Hajos
First Olympic swimming champion, Athens 1896, and later the architect of swimming venues
Overview
Hajos won the 100 m and 1200 m freestyle in the cold open water of the Bay of Zea at the first modern Games at age 18. He later became an architect, designing pools including the Margaret Island complex in Budapest that carries his name, and won an Olympic silver in architecture in 1924.
